Role of HR in an Organization - 6 Myths Debunked !!!

In an organization , HR is that one role which has never been given the importance it deserves . How much ever HR has proven itself  as a strategic business partner playing a pivotal and influential role in every aspect of business decision making, they are met with negative comments and given the feeling that they are a team of superfluous and redundant set of  people. HR has even become a butt of jokes for stand up comedians 


So here I am attempting to debunk some of the myths. Read before your are tempted to write off the importance of your line HR.


Myth 1: There are In the cafeteria more than in front of the laptop

The truth :We need regular meals just like other fellow human beings.  And a coffee break once in the evening is justified after a hectic day of solving employee and corporate issues .


Myth 2: Bathroom trip is just not just limited to a bio break 

The truth : Yes we use the loo for the reasons it is meant to be used . Period 

Myth 3 :Gossiping around is their favorite pastime 

The truth : When you hear us talking about other people , we are discussing the issues “concerning their work and work environment “ to come to a viable solution that helps the employee.

Myth 4 : HR offsites are a means to escape and have fun, fun and only fun. 

The truth : HR offsites are not just meant for Rest and Relaxation . Believe it or not , We discuss best practices , plan strategies and work out ways on how best we can cultivate a happy workplace . An off-site staff retreat helps us reclaim our tranquility and opens up our minds to endless possibilities for creating that awesome corporate culture employees seek .


Myth 5 : HR is a glorified Event manager for the company 

The truth : We believe that all work and no play makes jack a dull boy . These programs and events are not just for fun . It’s strategically planned to have a positive engaged workforce . And incidentally some of these fun activities and other strategic ideas towards building and implementing policies are planned during our offsites .


Myth 6 : HR is the secret henchmen for the Senior management 

The Truth : The truth is what you have heard time and again. HR tries to maintain a balance between what is best for the employee at the same time work within the boundaries specified by the Upper Management. After all, good policies and the not so friendly policies affect the HR team and the rest of the employees alike. 

So next time you spot your HR executive at the cafeteria or you get an OOO message saying “reply to emails may be delayed because of whole day meetings “- don’t judge that executive or the entire team .
