EDUCATION

India’s education history started from VEDAS which were the most powerful weapon in the ancient times to educate people. The great Scholar KAUTILYA mentioned
“Education is the best friend. An educated person is respected everywhere. Education beats the beauty and the youth.”
At that period of time when no one knows the value of education, Kautilya told us about the power of education. He told us that through education how we can make our society better. The history of education starts from here. He told us that if we have to become powerful in the world then education is the driving force through which we can conquer the whole world. When we didn’t have any schools or colleges there were Madaras and gurukul where students got religious teachings. It was the part of verbal learning and from there we can see that how education emerged to the place where we are right now.
In the modern world, there are schools and colleges where we get learning. But this all started when the East India Company came to India and they started teaching as they needed to educate the middle class for their administration work. So they started schools and colleges and started giving education. But this was limited to Urban areas only. Mahatma Gandhi once said:
“Basic education links the children, whether in the villages or in the cities to all that is best and lasting in India”.
From his early days of childhood till the freedom movement for India Gandhi Ji always emphasized the role of education in transforming the lives of people. So he always focused on the education but for the rural people as well as the urban. According to him, educated people can determine their part of life and hence can lead to upliftment of the society. So he was in favor of the village people getting an education. The most important thing he focused was the UPLIFTMENT OF THE SOCIETY as educated people can make their own path for life.
Today in the world of technology and India emerging as the global power in the world, education is the tool through which we can make our society a sustainable place to live. If we come to literacy rate, it varies between states in India. If we see the average literacy rate it is 74% in India. Kerala being the most literate state has achieved the literacy rate of 100% and Bihar the least literacy rate has got the literacy rate of 64%. So where we are lagging behind. It is the rural areas where the literacy rate is 71% and in the urban areas where the literacy rate is 86%.
Learning is the key issue which pulls our economy down. The main issues that involve the pulling back of the literacy are the patriarchal mindset of people. In the era of technology where the lifestyle is changing people are also changing their mind. The rural Bharat is the major chunk which lags behind in education and in order to overcome this we need a BOTTOM UP approach. There is a need to educate people of rural India so that we can make full utilization of our resources.
Gender Gap is not only between rural and urban areas but also between the genders. In the 21st century where we entered the phase of post-industrialization, India is having abundant schools and colleges, still, stails to bring girl child to the doorstep of education. What pulls us back? It is the superstition that does not lead to the quality of the education prevail. It is said, “Educate a girl and she can change the world.”
Swayamprabha TV channel to provide an education program for school and university children.
Apart from this Government is also making attempts to adapt to these practices from all over the world. Example – “Esquilla Nebula” model of Columbia to achieve the objective of “SABKA SAATH SABKA VIKAAS.”
This is the most important factor that leads to a slowdown in our country is the participation of the women workforce. Gender participation can compete in the world. By educating the girls we can educate the whole family as she is the mother who will help her children to grow, she will be a teacher which can teach better ways that how to develop our learning. This will indirectly affect the psychological thinking of the families in urban as well as rural areas. Educating them will create more opportunities for the children. Equality will enable them to compete with the world. Society should be well educated so that it makes their standard of living better and because of this, there will be a social upliftment of them.
Caste effects education which in turn affects the life of people. Systems of reservation prevailing in India which began in a good faith to provide equal opportunity to socially and economically backward classes today seems to terribly failing as many nondeserving candidates are getting opportunities for fueling social unrest in the society. Have we ever thought that this caste system not only affects our education system but also affects the life of the people? So to socially uplift the society the reservation method should be curbed. The numbers of quality educators are decreasing day by day. Corruption in Educating institutions also has a steep jump. We are not able to produce quality educators which is a serious problem for the future generation. This will affect the workplaces.
Our Prime Minister, Shri Narendra Modi said, "Education of a child should be at number 1 priority. Families should realize that cars and houses are less important than the child’s education". Our constitution the fundamental law of the land provides education as the fundamental right, as a directive principle of state policy and the duty of every citizen. Rallying the importance of educating our government has taken some major steps to make education available, accessible and affordable to all. Some initiatives are given below:
