Independence Day : Finding a True Indian in us

If the deaf are to hear, the sound has to be very loud. When we dropped the bomb, it was not our intention to kill anybody. We have bombed the British Government. The British must quit India and make her free

                                                                           ~ SHAHEED BHAGAT SINGH

The words were loud and clear to the colonial Government when an Indian revolutionary stood in front of them in the parliament. The motive behind the attack was to give the deaf Government a message to leave India. Today when we hear these words of Martyr Bhagat Singh who saw a dream to live and breathe in a free India then we can’t imagine that what these people have gone through to make our country independent.

What is independence? How can a country be said it is independent?
when we see people going to the red fort and see the National Flag hoisted and Prime Minister addressing the gathering at the red fort, these type of questions come in our mind.

“It is easy to kill the individuals but you cannot kill an idea”
                                                                                        ~Shaheed Bhagat Singh

Independence is nothing but an ideology. It was the time when we need to carve identity within the people of our country.

Indian independence movement started against British forces started in the minds of people. Discrimination against people was high. So an upsurge started and War for independence that started in the year 1857 and is known as the first war of independence where many great leaders like Bahadur Shah Zaffar, Rani Lakshmi Bai, Mangal Pandey and many more started an upsurge against the British Forces. Lord Canning was the viceroy at that time crushed the upsurge. So the first war of independence was a total failure. At that time when people did not know the meaning of independence these freedom fighters fought against them.

After decades of this first war of independence British government proposed the idea of making congress where leaders from different parts of India can stand and speak for their rights. But that did not proved to be a success for us. Reforms were brought by the government for the betterment of people but it also favoured British. Leaders like

Mahatma Gandhi

Subhash Chandra Bose

Pandit Nehru

Bal Gangadhar Tilak

Lala Lajpat Rai

Bhagat Singh

Rajguru

Sukhdev

B R Ambedkar

Chandrashekhar Azad
understood that the government will not easily leave India. So they at their own level started an upsurge against the government. In 1929 at Lahore session Congress leaders passed a resolution for “PURNA SWARAJ” means full independence.

Bhagat Singh fought against the government by staying in jail and hunger strike. Subhash Chandra Bose made Azad Hind Fauj or the Indian National Army for fighting against the army of British India. Gandhi ji in 1942 gave the Motto “DO or DIE” and started individual satyagraha against government. Many congress leaders started moving to different parts of India so that all the people can participate in the freedom struggle. At last in 1946 a resolution was passed by the Labour Party in London for Free India but divided India into two nations between India and Pakistan. Lord Mountbatten the last viceroy of British India passed the resolution in the parliament of India.

on 15th August 1947, our 1st Prime Minister Pandit Jawahar Lal Nehru hoisted the National Flag of India at the Red Fort.

Long years ago, we made a tryst with destiny, and now the time comes when we shall redeem our pledge, not wholly or in full measure, but very substantially. At the stroke of the midnight hour, when the world sleeps, India will awake to life and freedom
                                                                             ~Jawahar Lal Nehru

We got independence from Britishers in 20th century but if we see after 72 years of independence have we achieved the goal of what our freedom fighters have thought for?

Have we done our best to carry forward the ideology of the freedom fighters?

Muslim rulers and then British India have ruled for the longest period of time but till date we have not achieved our full independence.
Every tiny molecule of Ash is in motion with my heat I am such a Lunatic that I am free even in Jail
                                                                          ~Shaheed Bhagat Singh

Many parts of our country are still underdeveloped since 1947. As population rose, Income also increased but Per Capita Income is still low in India. Child Mortality Rate is High. Wars at the borders of India are still going on and our brave Soldiers have to give their lives so that we can live in free India. Women is still thought to be a commodity and are suffering discrimination.

If we see what is independence then we will get the answer that it is an ideology that made us free from British Government and can in the future make us great in the whole world. We have been independent from these but till the time man doesnot change his ideology nothing can change. It is harsh truth that we are still slaves of our mentality. It is totally on you that how you want to shape India in a better way, I leave this to you…

It is my small step towards making “India Great Again.”
